Bridge Replacement, Mt. Hood National Forest Service: Prime Contractor
SWP was contracted by the United States Forest Service for the replacement of structure for an existing single span pressure treated timber trail bridge over Shady Creek, located within the Multnomah Falls Recreation Area, Bridal Veil, OR. The bridge was replaced with a steel beam and precast concrete superstructure. The project is located on the Larch Mountain Trail, #441, at MP 0.30, between the Multnomah Falls Lodge and the Benson Bridge in the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Area, in Section 7, T. 1 N., R. 6 E., Multnomah County, Oregon.
This was an award under the Region 6, Road & Bridge Construction and Repair 8(a) Set-Aside IDIQ. This project had an accelerated schedule.
Project work included:
- Removal and disposal of the existing timber bridge
- Structural excavation and backfill
- Minor hot asphalt concrete patch
- Precast concrete members (spacer beam, backwall, and deck panel)
- Structural steel beams
- Cast-in-place concrete fill
- Rock wall foundation repair
- Metal pedestrian rail
Ancillary items included developing and implementing an erosion control and environmental protection plan, developing and implementing a trail closure, and developing and implementing a pedestrian and traffic control plan.
