YUMA PROVING GROUNDS, HANGAR 2882 RAMP GRADING DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION

US Army Corp – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc., Miles Construction Group, YPG-Hangar 2882 and Ramp Grading Design & Grading

General Atomics required a new hangar built along the Laguna Airfield at YPG Yuma, Arizona to test a variety of classified aircraft. They required a full set of plans, submittals, and approvals from both US Army Core and YPG Public Works Department.

Initially, architectural drawings were approved and a contract went out to Miles Construction Group to build the build pad, ramp, and hangar. SWP was subcontracted to grade for the building pad and ramp.

However, due to issues of flooding along the flight line and no elevations on the plan, GA brought along SWP Design Services to provide the grading plan to control flooding issues and follow grade guidelines for fixed wing aircraft using UFC 3-260-01. Design plans were approved within the week and compiled to form a complete set of construction plans.

A Change Order was issued to SWP to grade the facility to accommodate the newly finished floor elevations of the hangar/ramp and grade the newly designed retention basins to manage rain event runoffs.
